The Hobart Shakespearean made me think about school funding. Mr. Rafe is the teacher for this class. He has been a teacher for the past 20 years. He currently teaches a class with all Latino and Asian children, and has a very different teaching  style than most teachers. I feel that he has a good idea for his teaching style but i don't think many other teachers could do his style based on their funding. Mr. Rafe receives funding from a private charity that a former student had set up as a college project.
One of the most effective teaching approaches that seemed effective to me was the currency. Many of the students seem to have benefited from the currency in class. They used it to pay rent for their seats and also for late assignments in class. It helped them to understand real world economics. The other was his school trips he took the children on. It showed them what they had to look forward to in life if they tried hard.
My direct quote from the film was "You got to be the person you want the kids to be". Mr. Rafe said this, and i believe he does it very well. He is outside in recess with the children playing and teaching them lessons. He also participates in the plays they do and the books they read.
My personal goal for next year is to progress towards my goal of getting a degree

  1. I liked the quote you chose because I think how you act influences the children and if you be someone your not can have a negative effect on them. He also shows that he really cares about all his students.

  2. I also liked the money system. It's showing the children at a young age how to handle their money and brings real life experiences into the classroom which makes things a lot more interesting for the children.

  3. Rafe does receive a lot of funding and i agree that's why these children can have field trips and have Rife's great teaching methods, but Rife is much more interested and determined than most other teachers out there.

  4. I felt the same way about his ideas to use the "money". I think it's really cool to see how the children can actually use the money for something, and they can actually understand what it's going to be like when they get jobs.
