The Lottery

The lottery was a very eye opening video. What stuck with me the most is how there were so many kids trying to get into the charter schools. I did not realize that this was such a big problem. This relates to our study of the educational system because they were facing the problems of over population of the schools and larger class sizes. They mentioned the number 27 a few times as the average class size and that seams high to me. The quote that stood out to me from the film The Lottery was “The problem is not the parents, the problem is not the children, the problem is the system that protects academic failure.”

  1. I also noticed the talk of average class sizes being around 27. For young children that is extremely hig. They should be put in smaller classes where they can get one on one talks with their teachers.

  2. I thought it was almost insane to want to keep a bad school around, a child won't really get anything out of a bad education because even if they get into a better school later in life they will be so far behind that it will almost be tragic.

  3. That was my quote as well. After watching this film I also believe that a major cause of the poor quality of education in these neighborhoods is a mentality that accepts and even protects academic failure, not only in the children but in the teachers and the systems that produce horrible results.

  4. I really liked your quote because that is so true. And the class sizes should be smaller, and they should hire more teachers or do something so the children can get the education they need. If they don't have a great education it will be very difficult for them in the future.
